Vulcan

My mother sent me photos of her dressed as one of these people for Halloween.  She had to tape her fingers together to do the vulcan sign.  My mother is getting older, approaching 60.  I'm scared.  The senior lady I work with is only 68 and she has Alzheimer's.  Do I only have 8 years left with my mom?  What happens when your parents get old?  Why is it that she won't always be there?  Sad.
